When we were first introduced to the house during a FaceTime with our realtor, I almost passed out from stress. He walked up the stairs to show us the bonus room and literally gasped at the space that was bright yellow/green with rainbow flooring. RAINBOW. Why would someone ever pay money to have a professional install multicolored flooring into their home?
After the initial shock wore off, it was time to look for inspiration. After scouring the internet to find a direction, we took to calling it the Mad Men room after a show on AMC we just recently binged. I was inspired by Mid Century Modern interiors usage of muted but ample amounts of color. Eric pointed out a beautiful green interior and we were immediately taken. We took inspiration from the colors that are prevalent outside to truly honor the homes magical location. Once the color was on the walls the rest fell into place.

Pairing vintage pieces was extremely important to us so we were delighted to find a trunk at the Good Will for $40. Another stunning piece is the vintage luggage given to us by a friend. I can’t tell you how special it is to know the actual story behind the near mint condition hand luggage that her grandfather used to take on business trips. There is even still plastic covering on the interior!
We are paying more attention to lines in this home as well. One of my favorite spots in the home is where the green from the bonus room meets the cream from the entryway. A crisp, beautiful line joining two spaces flawlessly.
Let us not forget the little curiosities to be found all around the space. Decorating our favorite shelves with pieces we have collected over the years and records passed down from Eric’s family make the view from the couch as calm as it is interesting.
