Beauty: Nails From Home
Lockdown has changed my life in many ways and they all haven’t been bad! One of the best things to have come from the Pandemic is I have put more effort into #selfcare.
I’ve rediscovered press on nails just recently and my mind has officially been blown.
As a child I would wrap tape around my nails or use super glue to attach anything that resembled a fake nail to my hands. I was then introduced to press on nails by my mother and a whole new world opened up. The problem? The nails would last for maybe 1-2 days maximum no matter the amount of glue I was globbing on. I ditched those as quickly as I could when I was allowed to get acrylic nails applied at the salon. Fast forward 15 years and here I am as a 31 year old woman going through a pandemic and unable to get my nails done. (Big problems, I know..)
Many moons ago, I used to do fashion shows with the owner of Static Nails and was aware that she started a press on company. Enter Static Nails. I purchased one set to try out (Mademoiselle Coffin Set) priced at $16 and they arrived three days later. After sizing each nail to my own nail beds, I placed a fair amount of glue on both the press on and my own nail then held it in place for 30 seconds. They lasted for a full week until I jammed my hand while doing some renovations. Apparently I wanted to put them to the true test! I popped the rest of them off and my nails were completely in tact. SOLD.
I am definitely keeping these for special occasions when I’m in a pinch or a weekend vacay and I highly recommend!
Up next is how I do my nails weekly. I’ve transitioned from going to the nail salon every two weeks to every 6-8 weeks. I still get regular pedicures but I have found doing my own gel manicures to be extremely cost effective. I have also gotten better at working with my non-dominant hand thanks to all the practice! I also find that my manicure lasts around a week or so and peels off in one sheet leaving my nails much less damaged then when I get them professionally applied.
